Let’s Get to Know the Dark Web

Nowadays, almost everyone uses the internet in their lives. Either to access social media, read news sites, or watch streaming video. However, please note that not everything on the internet can be accessed freely. According to outstanding facts, only 4% to 10% of all web content on the internet can be searched with ordinary search engines. This means that a lot of things on the internet are rarely known by Internet users and also can not be searched with a regular search engine, also known assurface web”.

Most of the internet users are still ordinary, not even familiar with the term “dark web”. The dark web is the deepest part on the internet. To access the dark web, we cannot use a conventional web browser. The tool that can be used is the TOR Browser which was created to access web content that is on the dark web.

Quoted from Thidiweb, that the dark web itself was created by the government of the United States (US) to allow spies (espionage) to exchange information anonymously. The US military developed a technology known as TOR (The Onion Router) in the mid-1990s and released it into the public domain that is used generally for everyone.

Like most normal websites in general, the dark web is used by everyone for various reasons. However, because of their “secret” nature, it is not surprising that they use them for illegal and criminal activities. There are many things that can be found through the dark web, such as pornography, credit card numbers, fake passports, marijuana sales, hacked accounts, Bitcoin lottery tickets, fake coupons, fake college degrees, poison sales, printing fake money, equipment skimmer, drugs, weapons, assassins, sensitive government data, and many other things.

Even a study by the University of Portsmouth in 2014 stated that the type of content most sought after on the dark web through TOR is child pornography and goods, such as drugs, personal items, and firearms.

So, Eclicious, for those of you who have read this, be more careful in using the internet. Hopefully this is beneficial and can be used as a lesson for us. (IVD/NIS)
