In 2022 the areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) are ready to have a new face with LRT (Light Rail Transit) transportation. Quoted from dephub.go.id, the construction of this transportation has been completed about 84.6 percent on June 8, 2021 and is targeted to be ready to operate in the middle of 2022. The construction of this transportation is an effort by the government in solving traffic problems in the capital.

This is not the first time the electric rail-based transportation project has been undertaken. Quoted from megapolitan.kompas.com, previously there was mrt (Mass Rapid Transit) operating in 2019, and KRL which has been operating since 1976. However, the difference is the capacity of passengers. KRL can accommodate about 2,000 passengers on 1 train, followed by mrt which can accommodate about 1950 passengers, and lastly LRT which can only accommodate about 628 passengers.
Although the LRT cannot accommodate many passengers, but the speed is not in doubt because this transportation can go about 80 kilometers per hour which is certainly faster than the KRL. Another advantage of LRT is its floating crossing system so that it can reduce problems when operating, compared to KRL which has far more obstacles because the crossing is on the ground. In addition, LRT also has more complete facilities so that it can provide comfort and safety for passengers, especially priority passengers such as the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities.

18 LRT stations that will operate later, such as Dukuh Atas Station, Setiabudi Station, Rasuna Said Station, Kuningan Station, Pancoran Station, and so on. The existence of this transportation is certainly warmly welcomed by people who especially live in the capital because this transportation is expected to help reduce traffic problems in the capital and surrounding areas.
According to Budi Karya Sumadi as Minister of Transportation, the existence of LRT transportation is expected to open opportunities for the nation’s children in learning railway mass transit technology because LRT is targeted to be a more effective, efficient, and modern transportation transportation for passengers both in terms of departure time, facilities, to security all well prepared and the existence of 3 modes of electric train transportation (KRL, MRT, LRT) is expected to be one of Indonesia’s big steps towards better change. Let’s wait for the work of this nation’s children in 2022!
